The Bus is Oʻahu’s public transport system. At $2.75 Adult/$1.25 Child one-way or $5.50 Adult/$2.50 Child for a one-day pass, it’s the cheapest way to travel.
Routes can take you to Ala Moana, Diamond Head, and Hanauma Bay. You can ride The Bus around the entire island but it’s not very efficient for hop-on hop-off travel due to lots of bus stops and wait times in between services. It can be used well for a return journey to one destination e.g. a trip out to Kailua or up to Kualoa Ranch, as long as you’ve checked that the timetable works to get you there and back.
It serves Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, but it’s not advisable to catch The Bus on arrival due to strict baggage rules. No backpacks with metal frames allowed, no bag may be larger than 22′′ (55cm) x 14′′ (35cm) x 9′′ (22cm). Bags must be placed under the feet or on the lap.
Riding The Bus is easy. Find the right bus stop, step up to the bus stop sign, wave for pick-up, and pay the exact fare on the bus (TheBus doesn’t carry change). To request a stop on the bus, pull the cord.
Visit thebus.org or call the helpline +1 (808) 848-5555 for bus information. We also recommend downloading an app called DaBus2, it uses GPS to provide accurate bus arrival times.
