Thanksgiving on Oʻahu
Thanksgiving Day in Hawaiʻi takes place on Thursday, November 26, 2026.
Thanksgiving is a cherished federal holiday in the United States. It’s rooted in the tradition of giving thanks for a successful harvest and is now focused on gratitude and family and friend togetherness.
What is Thanksgiving like in Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi?
Some people like to kick off Thanksgiving morning with a Turkey Trot — a fun run held in Oʻahu communities to burn off calories before the feast begins.
While many families in Hawaiʻi gather indoors for a traditional meal, others take advantage of the beautiful weather with an outdoor Thanksgiving picnic or beachside lunch.
No matter the setting, the heart of the holiday is sharing time together and a delicious spread — roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce and more.
If you have access to a kitchen during your stay, consider preparing your own Thanksgiving feast. You can have groceries delivered or pre-order a fully-cooked to-go meal for easy pickup.
Prefer dining out? Oʻahu’s restaurants feature festive Thanksgiving promotions, from lavish buffets to themed prix fixe menus — or you can enjoy a scenic alternative like a dinner cruise.
Swap Turkey for a Lūʻau This Thanksgiving
For a special Thanksgiving evening, try a lūʻau. While most stay true to Hawaiian cuisine, some may add Thanksgiving flair. The following lūʻau remain open on Thanksgiving.
