Getting Around Oahu > Uber, Lyft & Holoholo on Oahu

Uber, Lyft and Holoholo are ride-sharing apps that enable you to hail on-demand private drivers. They’re used prolifically in Hawaii’s major towns, they tend to be cheaper than Taxis/Cabs and more convenient. We find that Uber on Oahu have nicer cars than Lyft, but both will get you from A to B.

Please note, Holoholo is a local Hawaii-based business who pride themselves on ‘fair pricing’. They don’t practice surge pricing and have no fixed up-front costs, this means fares will hover around a standard rate no matter the demand. Uber and Lyft, on the other hand, do practice surge pricing (they will increase fares when there is an increase in demand). Holoholo now has an option to request a vaccinated driver as well as a green vehicle.

There are three designated ride-share pick-up areas at Honolulu Airport. They’re an excellent and affordable way to travel around Waikiki, Diamond Head, Kahala, Ala Moana, Kakaako, Downtown Honolulu, and even to Hawaii Kai and Kailua. They are not reliable on Oahu’s North Shore.

The app will show you an estimated price for the journey before you make the request. Don’t forget, you’ll need data available on your smartphone upon landing to book these services.

Set up your Uber (Apple/Google), Lyft (Apple/Google) or Holoholo (Apple/Google) accounts and get familiar with the app before landing.
