  • Fukubukuro spans the first few days of the New Year. Fukubukuro (fuku means luck and bukuro means a bag) or Lucky Bags is an event where bags containing mystery products are sold for a set price that is well below the value if purchased separately. The hitch? You won’t know what’s inside the bag until after you purchase it. This New Year’s custom is popular in Japan and has gained momentum in Hawaii. Select merchants on Oahu including those at International Market Place, Royal Hawaiian Center, and Ala Moana Center promote Fukubukuro activities.
